Poland's Mój Prąd 6.0: A New Push for Renewable Energy

2024-08-18

Poland's Ministry of Climate and Environment has announced the launch of the sixth edition of the "My Electricity" (Mój Prąd) program. This initiative, set to begin on September 2, 2024, and run until December 20, 2024, or until funds are depleted, aims to further support the adoption of renewable energy in the country. The program is backed by a substantial budget of PLN 400 million from the FEnIKS fund, allocated for 2021-2027.

Key Highlights:

- Application Period: September 2, 2024, to December 20, 2024, or until the allocation is exhausted.

- Budget: PLN 400 million from the FEnIKS fund (2021-2027).

- Eligible Expenses: From January 1, 2021, in line with FEnIKS guidelines.

- Net-Billing Requirement: To qualify for funding, applicants must settle their energy accounts using the net-billing system. For micro-installations connected under the previous net metering system, transitioning to net-billing is necessary to receive funding for additional devices, such as energy or heat storage systems.

Since its inception, the "My Electricity" program has funded over 530,000 photovoltaic (PV) micro-installations across Poland, significantly contributing to the nation's renewable energy goals.

Detailed Information:

·  Scope of the Program:

1,For PV micro-installations registered by July 31, 2024, energy or heat storage systems are optional but encouraged.

- Micro-installation capacity: 2 kW to 10 kW.

- Funding amounts:

 · PV micro-installations: PLN 6,000.

 · PV micro-installations with an additional element: PLN 7,000, plus funding for the additional component.

 · Energy storage: PLN 16,000.

 · Heat storage: PLN 5,000.

2, For PV micro-installations registered after August 1, 2024, the inclusion of energy or heat storage systems is mandatory.

- Micro-installation capacity: 2 kW to 20 kW.

- Funding amounts:

 · PV micro-installations with an additional element: PLN 7,000, plus funding for the additional component.

 · Energy storage: PLN 16,000.

 · Heat storage: PLN 5,000.

· Eligible Devices: Various devices qualify for funding, including:

1,PV micro-installations with rooftop or ground-mounted panels and inverters.
2,Micro-installations with micro-inverters.
3,Carports or other structures with integrated PV cells.
4,PV awnings, such as modern balcony or entrance canopies that generate electricity.
5,Photovoltaic roofing materials, such as solar tiles.
6,Balcony PV sets.
7,Other devices approved for use in Poland.

All photovoltaic installations must be connected to the national power grid. The capacity of the energy storage systems funded under the program must be at least 1.5 times the peak power (kWp) of the PV installation.

Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) will calculate the combined capacity of the PV micro-installation and the energy storage system, with a total cap of 50 kW for all renewable energy installations owned by the prosumer.

Changes to Net-Billing:

Recent changes to the net-billing system have been introduced to encourage energy storage and the efficient use of surplus electricity generated during peak sunlight hours. This system allows prosumers to choose how they settle the electricity they generate, aligning their energy production and consumption patterns with their financial savings.

The Ministry of Climate and Environment hopes these updates will increase the profitability of prosumer micro-installations and further promote energy storage technology across Poland. By allowing prosumers to choose their preferred settlement system, the government responds to public feedback, enabling a more informed and tailored approach to managing household energy usage and costs.
